Teams announced for the 10th Annual Indiana Supportive Housing Institute

Organizations will develop plans to create six supportive housing developments for homeless veterans or individuals experiencing chronic homelessness

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) and Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) announced today the six teams that will be participating in the 2019 Indiana Supportive Housing Institute. These teams will each establish a plan to create a supportive housing development serving either homeless veterans or individuals experiencing chronic homelessness.

“Now in its 10th year, the Institute continues to be a great opportunity for organizations to develop detailed, individualized supportive housing plans,” said Indiana Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch who serves as IHCDA’s board chair. “This year there is a specific focus on housing for homeless veterans and individuals experiencing chronic homelessness.”

Provided below is a list of organizations participating in this year’s Institute:

Project Lead: Englewood CDC
Location: Indianapolis
Population: Homeless Veterans

Project Lead: South Bend Heritage Foundation
Location: South Bend
Population: Chronically Homeless

Project Lead: ECHO Housing
Location: Evansville
Population: Chronically Homeless

Project Lead: RealAmerica
Location: Danville
Population: Chronically Homeless

Project Lead: Mercy Housing

Project Lead: Woda-Cooper

Over the next few months, these teams will work closely with IHCDA and CSH through a series of targeted training and group exercises. They will also be provided technical assistance and presented with pre-development financing opportunities. The Institute will culminate with the Finale this summer where teams will present their plans to a group of public and private investors.

Depending on the project type, funding for these developments will be provided through a combination of Rental Housing Tax Credits (RHTC), Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) funds as well as the Housing Trust Fund (HTF).

Since the Institute began, nine classes of teams have graduated. This has helped to contribute to a significant reduction (38%) in chronic homelessness in Indiana.
