Detroit, Michigan Housing + Health

This week, Mercedes Brown, who leads our CSH work in Michigan, will be a panelist in a session of the Mayors’ Institute on Affordable Housing and Health: Advancing City-Level Strategies to Generate Sustainable Solutions. The Institute, led by the National League of Cities in partnership with NeighborWorks America, is part of League’s Culture of Health Mayors’ Series supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The goal of the Institute is to encourage and educate mayors to identify and advance practical, comprehensive solutions to problems of housing affordability by engaging residents and community-based organizations in the design and development of community-centric housing and health initiatives.

Mercedes, Director of the CSH team in Michigan, is featured in a panel that will take place in the afternoon of April 4 and is focused on  Exploring the Intersection of Housing and Health in Detroit. Joining Mercedes in the panel discussion will be:

Moderator: David Yeh, Director of Special Projects, Detroit Health Department.

Panelists:

▪ Jerry Peterson, Executive Director, The Ruth Center

▪ Lynn Hendges, Manager, State of Michigan, Housing and Homeless Services

▪ Roshanak Mehdipanah, Ph.D, MSc, Assistant Professor, Department of Health Behavior and Health Education, University of Michigan School of Public Health.

The panel will take place the same day as site visits in Detroit are planned for mayors and other senior policymakers attending the Institute.
