Northern California Award Winners

CSH is proud of our Northern California nominees, finalists and winners in the recent CSH California Supportive Housing Quality Awards. The competition was held to acknowledge CSH’s 20th Anniversary and to highlight CSH’s supportive housing standards, The Seven Dimensions of Quality in Supportive Housing.

We celebrate two winners in the Quality in Operations, Management and Service Delivery category. An urban project, Community Housing Partnership’s Zygmund Arendt House, in San Francisco, exemplifies supportive housing that shows great fidelity to the model supported by CSH.  Zygmund Arendt House serves seniors, ages 62 and older, all of whom have long histories of homelessness and disability.  The lovely building and robust services help tenants rebuild their lives.

Garden Park Apartment Community, a joint project of Contra Costa Interfaith Housing and Mercy Housing California, serves families in the non-urban community of Pleasant Hill in northern California.  Garden Park Apartment Community uses professional staff and lots of community volunteers to provide intensive services to family members, especially focusing on helping children break the cycle of poverty and homelessness in which they have lived.

The Bay Area is also home to two finalists in the Quality in Design competition.  Madison at 14th Street Apartments in Oakland, a project of Affordable Housing Associates, is an energy-efficient, hip urban home for low income families and youth who have aged out of foster care.  With support from First Place for Youth, young people learn the life skills and vocational skills to succeed in independence.  Casa Feliz, from First Community Housing in San Jose, is another beautiful modern apartment building which has achieved a LEED Gold Certification.  This project provides workforce housing, with units set aside for persons with developmental disabilities.  Services are provided by Housing Choices Coalition and property management by the John Stewart Company.
